Caught a sneak peek at the new stuff from Lindsay Lohan's brand 6126...
No way.
From an article in WWD:
The line will retail where the leggings currently sell: Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Nordstrom and specialty stores nationwide, plus Harrods, Lane Crawford, Kitson Japan and Isetan internationally.Kaylor estimated sales of $3 million a year for the leggings, while Levy estimated the clothing collection’s sales will be $10 million wholesale in the first 12 months.
Sucks to be me!!!
jL
p.s. And all you guys who bought the Sheer Spartans - whenever you go out people are going to be saying to you "Oh, you got the Lindsay Lohan leggings from Nordstrom - I love those!"
p.p.s Some more pics of some Black Milk goodness from 2009...
All available at the Black Milk Store. ;)
xx
JAMES! :( You need to write copyright design documents for each piece (a simple a4 page will do) and then patent or trademark your designs (will cost as much as selling 1 pair of leggings so definitely worth it!)
D/w no-one likes LL anymore anyway x

No dam you Lindsy, I dare say yours will stomp all over them though.
Dam that orange tart
Get on to those copyright docs pronto!
Better get me some original shears I think.

if your sheer spartans are anything like the cheetah ones that i got, then the simple quality of fit is going to blow those cheap imitations out of the water. its the problem with mass produced stuff that doesnt have the original designer working on designing them. those of us who own black milk spartans are lucky that we have such awesome fitting leggings.

What the hell?! Spartans are your thing, you created them. How dare they!

Whoa. I'm no lawyer, but it appears there's some infringement going on here. I'd check out what your rights are under the circumstances. For serious.
Posted by: Treacle | 31 December 2009 at 04:55 PM
omfg. you've got to be kidding. i wholeheartedly agree, get on those copyright docs!

Ugh, First H&M and now Lindsay? That's awful.
I agree with the posters above, get copyrighted. Talk to a lawyer, seriously.

Also, this post makes me want Sheer Spartans...

Don't worry, your leggings will blow those imitations out of the water. Not to mention, it says they're "cutouts", which, if I have interpreted correctly, means that there is no fabric over the area where the liquid fabric is cut away. They'll probably be horribly saggy. Let's cross our fingers.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right? I can imagine your frustration but don’t lose your focus. Linsey Lohan will never be able to amuse me with writings like yours every day…. Keep it coming…. Price it fairly and you’ll be just fine
PS – Catsuits Catsuits Catsuits!!!!!!!

That is disgusting!
Posted by: eyeliah | 01 January 2010 at 04:18 AM
Whoa dude, that looks like serious infringement happening. I'd say lawyer up.

Thanks for all the advice peeps, sadly I have NO LAWYER, and NO MO-NEY. So... I have no idea what to do. Maybe just keep doing my thing. Or is that lame?
Posted by: jL | 01 January 2010 at 01:28 PM
If ArtsLaw was still up I'm sure they could have helped, that's their department. Is there some sort of Fashion Designers Association you could contact? Or an association for IP Law?
Posted by: Tiara the Merch Girl | 01 January 2010 at 02:26 PM
no james, you should't let this go! some may argue that all you've got going is an online business but a business is a business. i think you should consult someone (unfortunately i do not know who) to ask what can be done. you're a designer and i believe you should have the rights to claiming your own designs!
Posted by: szela | 01 January 2010 at 04:54 PM
You don't need a lawyer for copyright james, i'll discuss it with you next time i'm over :)
Posted by: Emma | 01 January 2010 at 04:58 PM
At least you and your loyal followers got mainstream confirmation on what we always knew - that your the bomb diggity! I say don't let this go, but attack it in an unusual way. Its flattery. Tap into this to promote yourself.

LOL! I can't send you a message back because you aren't following me. Darn that twitter for being so clever. I emailed you some stuff off the top of my head for general things. Its stuff I learned and picked up at a marketing internship. Hope it helps.

Actually I'm not one of the LL haters but in this case I'm on your side. You should sue LL. It's obvious she copied the style.
Posted by: me | 08 January 2010 at 02:40 AM
First: your leggings are FABULOUS!!! I highly recommend getting into the legal action of things and get your name and designs copyrighted/trademarked! And as for LL, geez where do I start. She is just using her name to get out; her pea brain is in serious need of some design/art classes: stop stealing people's ideas and start making yourself a better person which in the end will give you a decent life.
NB: I bought 2 pairs of these shear spartans! Be prepared to wow-amaze people around you. My husband loved it ;)

Sickening! Your line is amazing- she needs to be held responsible for blatantly copying!!!
There are consequences set in place for 5 yr olds in Kindergarten who copy off others- what makes Lindsay think she can get away with doing so in the business world, let alone the real world.
Again, you are fantastic and I hope her line is NOT allowed to get away with this!

jL,
Don't try to beat 'em, join 'em.
You don't need a lawyer. You need a PR firm. Continue to Pimp the shite out this story and build yourself an eCom landing page to capture all the business you can from her misdeed until her lawyers call you!
Leak it to ALL Hollywack news feeds and GET A PIC of her wearing your work!

Lindsay's a joke, besides it's all on People.com now!! It links to this page! I don't think she's gonna have a leg to stand on! http://stylenews.peoplestylewatch.com/2010/01/07/lindsay-lohan-accused-of-copying-designs-for-her-new-6126-line/
