By the way, I should point out that in the goldy-cut-out ones (urgh!) the black sections are not part of the construction. They are just paired with black tights underneath.

We decided to keep them paired with the black because it was a bit more striking than the more 'nude' look. But here is what it looks like without the black:

Now, you better be confident in your pins if you want to try to pull this look off!!!

This was a trial length that I did for a special girl who lives on the other side of the world and likes her leggings looooong. Yes, you know who you are :)

Okay, so here are two of my models (*cough, cough*). 

With the male model I told them I needed a guy who really looked like he had just escaped from jail.

Not very handsome. Funny shaped nose. Tatty pink singlet.

And I asked for washboard abs, but instead they gave me a guy with a washboard forehead.

See what working in fashion has done to me?!

I look a bit evil with my pointy ear.

The girl in the background is the beautiful Alyse who did such an amazing job.

Okay, so this girl walks in to the photo shoot. 

She's 6'2", size XS with long blonde hair.

"Hi, I'm one of the models..."

NO KIDDING.

In heels, she's looking down on me. Standing next to her, yeah, I'll confess, I felt a little threatened in my masculinity. But I'm better now (I had to watch an hour of rugby and cheer when people got hurt - it worked wonders).

I've realized a little too late that there are a few other places doing ripped effects. I spotted one on the American Apparel site. And I think H&M have something similar - with the slits on the front.

But...I like these ones. :)

Want to know something weird? I went to this cosplay/anime/geek stuff conference thing and I see this girl dressed as Catwoman. And I think to myself "She looks fantastic, she should model for me" But nothing happens, we just chat about tights and that's it. Through a strange series of events, she's coming to my place to do a fitting in an hour!

I'm fitting tights to Catwoman - so... I guess I must be awesome.

I think I'm going to make this my theme song (!!!):

Swarovski Collaboration (!)

This has been kicking around the interwebs for a few days, and I must confess that I find it vaguely comforting. Ripped seam, ... and a wavy zipper (really needs to be flat, especially when the dress relies on such a sharp geometric pattern for it's effect):

For those who don't know me well - I wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat thinking "Oh my goodness! Those ankles were too tight! That waist wasn't tight enough! Those sequins look stupid! That fabric is too fragile! The needles on my machine are blunt! It's the end of the world! Aaaaaargh!"

Then I assume the fetal position and go back to sleep. (Just another night for your typical paranoid.)

But even Balmain have stuff ups, and upon the bod of Miss Moss, no less. :)

Massive Photo Shoot! (And Why I'm Angry With London...)

Wow, so much going on at the moment! I have a MASSIVE photo shoot happening this weekend. It started off as:

• One girl
• Doing a fitting

Then morphed into:

• 6 girls
• 1 photographer
• Doing fittings and a shoot

Now it is currently:

• 7 girls
• 6 photographers (!)
• 2 stylists
• Doing fittings and a shoot and who knows what else!

So I've just spent like $100 (that I don't have) on food and refreshments (chips, chocolate and coke for the photographers, celery and water for the models [joke...])

So I am furiously designing new concept for the shoot. I did two new garments today (which you will see shortly... :) which was a bit naughty because I was meant to be doing Cages all day.

Had to mention this fantastic DIY project from a fellow blogger friend  (hell - what do you call a relationship mediated through fashion blogs?!) Calamity Jem's Vintage Vaudeville. 

She did mention to me that creating these was mildly challenging at times - involving various swear words/screaming at high volume. Welcome to my world, sucker! :)

Gotta say - this look was the stand out for me (from Cassie Kogler):

Despite the hotness of this look, you just don't see it in the streets of Brisbane... :(  

Maybe in London they're a little more exciting (but, London, I still don't forgive you for not inviting me to Alternative Fashion Week. Boo.)

THE Best Tights of 1986.... (By Far!)

And first prize goes to... David Bowie!

Who could forget? I remember it well, despite the fact that I was just a young boy, no more than 6 months old (*cough, cough*).

I was reminded of this fact when I went to a Cosplay/Amine/Geek culture convention two weeks ago. I wanted to check out what manner of tights would be going on as various individuals emulated their heroes. 

I would have to say, this girl here that I met was a stand out. She decided to dress up as David Bowie from Labyrinth. I photographed her (forgot to use the flash, sorry).

You can't see it here, but she stuffed a ball (I think it was a ball) down her pants to more accurately reflect, shall we say, some of the more... er... prominent aspects of David's look.
